IELTSスピーキングとは?

IELTSスピーキング試験は試験官との対面式の口頭面接で、11〜14分間続きます。3つのパートで構成されています:パート1(4-5分)は身近なトピック、パート2(3-4分)はキューカードによる長い話、パート3(4-5分)は抽象的な議論です。

Part 1: Introduction and Interview (4-5 minutes)

In Part 1, the examiner introduces themselves and asks you to confirm your identity. They then ask general questions on familiar topics such as home, family, work, studies, and interests. This part tests your ability to give opinions and information on everyday topics.

Common Part 1 Topics

• Hometown• Work/Study• Accommodation• Hobbies• Daily routine• Food/Cooking

Key Strategies for Part 1

  • Give full answers:Don't just say "Yes" or "No" — expand with reasons and examples.
  • Be natural:This is a conversation, not a speech. It's okay to hesitate briefly.
  • Show enthusiasm: Varied intonation makes you sound more engaging.

Part 2: Individual Long Turn (3-4 minutes)

You receive a cue card with a topic and 4 bullet points. You have 1 minute to prepare notes, then speak for 1-2 minutes on the topic. The examiner may ask one or two follow-up questions afterward.

Sample Cue Card

Describe a book you recently read.

You should say:

  • What the book was about
  • When you read it
  • Why you chose to read it
  • And explain what you learned from it

The 1-Minute Preparation Strategy

  1. Choose your example quickly— Don't overthink, pick the first relevant experience.
  2. Note 3-4 key vocabulary words— Words that show your range (e.g., "captivating," "profound," "eye-opening").
  3. Plan your structure — Past → Present → Future often works well.

Part 3: Two-Way Discussion (4-5 minutes)

The examiner asks more abstract questions related to the Part 2 topic. This part tests your ability to analyze, discuss, and speculate about issues. Questions often involve society, trends, and hypothetical situations.

Comparison Questions

"How has reading changed compared to 20 years ago?"

Opinion Questions

"Do you think traditional books will disappear in the future?"

Advanced Phrases for Part 3

• From my perspective...• It's a double-edged sword...• This begs the question...• The underlying issue is...
